Columbus Shark

Silver-tipped Shark : Columbian Shark : Tete Sea catfish

Tete sea catfishes are another example of pseudo sharks and are actually part of the Catfish Family. This fish has quite a few names including:

  • Columbian  shark
  • Silver Tipped shark
  • White Tip shark catfish,
  • Black Fin shark,
  • Christian catfish,
  • Jordan’s catfish,
  • West American Cat shark
  • Tete Sea Catfish

You shouldn’t confuse the Silver Tipped Shark Catfish (scientific name Hexanematichthys seemanni) to the Silver Tip  Shark (scientific name Carcharhinus albimarginatus) which is a real shark.

These fish are actually not really advisable for home aqyuariums, as they are brackish water fish and need hard water with salt, as they grow older.  However, they are very peaceful comared to some other Catfish sharks and live well with other fish, perferably other Columbian sharks. As they can grow up to a two feet long, they do need a good sized tank, esecially since it needs to swim quite a bit.

A word of caution, the fish does have venom in it spine an should  be treated with care.
